Newman
Athletic Facility

The Newman Athletic Facility/Gymnasium was one of the original
structures built on the property when Husson moved to its current Bangor
location
in 1968. Named after Bill Newman, an original Husson trustee, and a prominent
Maine banker, this facility has served the students, faculty and community
very well for over 30 years. The maple floor and bleacher seating of 1,200
in the gymnasium have served as the home court for the Husson Mens
and Womens basketball teams that have routinely achieved national
attention. More recently the gymnasium has served as the home court of
the Husson Braves Volleyball squad as well. The Bangor Christian Patriots
call Newman Gym their home court during the winter basketball seasons.
Each year the McDonalds All-Star classic is played at Newman Gym. This
showcases the best Senior talents in all of Maine High School basketball.
Attached to the gymnasium, and built at the same
time is the Webber Pool (shown below). The Webber Pool is a 25 yard,
six-lane, competitive pool. This pool is used by Husson students
for recreation and injury rehabilitation, as well as faculty and
members of the gym. The Bangor High Rams also call the Webber Pool
their home during the winter swimming and diving seasons. The Webber
Pool has been home to over 30, Bangor High School state championship
squads in boys and girls swimming. Balcony seating for over
500 spectators makes this facility one of the finest in the Eastern
Maine area.

Recent renovations have brought to the Newman Athletic
Facility the Kenduskeag Institute and the Clara Swan Fitness Center.
The Kenduskeag Institute is a high-tech laboratory that allows for
testing of athletic endurance and kinesiology for the Physical Education
and Physical Therapy departments. The Swan Center is a state-of-the-art
fitness center that allows Husson students and faculty the opportunity
to train with some of the finest free-weight and machine equipment
available. The Swan Center was generously funded, in part by Alice
and Richard Trott.
The Newman Athletic Facility also houses locker
room facilities for all of Hussons Athletic teams. Offices
for each coach and the Athletic Administration can also be found
in the hallways of Newman gymnasium. The Bangor Lumberjacks, of
the Eastern League Independent Professional Baseball, have recently
made renovations to the building. They have added a new-age locker
room as well as made renovations to the current baseball locker
room.
The D. Bruce MacGreggor, Hall of Fame room also
calls the Newman Athletic Facility its home. The MacGreggor Hall
of Fame room was named after legendary coach and instructor at Husson
College, D. Bruce MacGreggor. The Hall of Fame room serves many
purposes for the college, including meetings, ceremonies and also
serves home to the inductees in the Husson College Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame room was generously funded by Nicole and Warren
Caruso, both Husson graduates.

WINKIN SPORTS COMPLEX
Is
home to our baseball, field hockey, and football teams, the
Winkin Sports Complex is one of the best faculities in New
England. The vision on legendary baseball coach Dr. John
Winkin helped transform Hussons baseball field into
a mulitsport complex complete with field turf,
dugouts, and press box.
Dr.
John Winkin got the project of the ground by donating his
summer camp to the school and the proceeds jump started the
project. His gift inspired long time friend Harold Alfond
to make a $1,000,000 donation to Husson so that field
turf could be installed as a playing surface along
with drainage system. The Harold Alfond Diamond is
one of the best playing surfaces for baseball in New England.
Upon
completion in spring 2004 there will be seating for 3000
spectators for baseball, football, and field hockey games.
Also beginning in summer 2004 it will be the home of a professional
baseball team, the Bangor Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks will
play 42 home games at the John Winkin Sports Complex.

The soccer field is at the heart of the campus located with in the circle in
shadows of the Bell Tower.
This maximum size soccer field is one of the finest natural
grass stadiums in New England. Granite and iron fences surround the
field and bench enclosures give the complex that old world feel
which makes it a very special place to play.
