Husson Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded through the college admission
application process.
Academic Honors Scholarship: Ten $1,000 scholarships
are awarded annually to entering freshmen students in two- or
four- year programs who have achieved academic excellence in
high school. These awards are renewed annually as long as the
recipient maintains Dean's List grades (3.4 GPA). Applications
may be obtained from guidance counselors or by contacting the
Office of the Chief Academic Officer at Husson. Application
deadline is March 1.
Campus Community Scholarship: Awarded to students from
under-represented groups who can enrich the College community
through diversity.
Leadership Scholarship: Awarded to entering students
who hae displayed meritorious academic and/or leadership qualities
during their high school years. Each recipient will be reviewed
on an individual basis. SAT/GPA and rank in class, as well as
potential community and/or high school activities, serve as
guidelines for this award. This scholarship is renewable based
upon full-time continuous enrollment and a GPA of 2.5 starting
in the second semester.
Students must apply for the following scholarships during
the spring semester and selections are made by the Scholarship
Committee.
Douglas H. & Ana M. Brown Scholarship: One-half
of the awards made annually from the funds shall be to outstanding
students majoring in a business field and one-half to outstanding
students majoring in nursing.
Frank M. Carter Memorial Scholarship: Established by
friends and colleagues in the memory of Frank M. Carter, this
scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior accounting major
from Maine who demonstrates both financial need and academic
excellence.
Fred R. Dingley Scholarship: Awarded to a student from
Lee, Winn, Springfield, Webster Plantation, Prentiss Plantation,
Topsfield, Macwahoc, Reed Plantation, Drew Plantation, and the
unorganized territories of Kingman and Brookton.
William H. Donahue Scholarship: Awarded annually to
an upper-class student in the Department of Accounting.
EMGH-EMMC Husson Nurses Alumni Association Scholarship:
Awarded to nursing majors and Eastern Maine Technical College
nursing graduates in the Husson B.S. nursing program with a
minimum 2.5 GPA.
Russell C. & Veronica D. Eustice Scholarship: Awarded
to a student majoring in Business Administration and who demonstrates
both financial need and the ability to succeed in a business
program.
Fleet Bank Scholarship: Awarded to a deserving Husson
student.
James & Mildred Judy Scholarship: Awarded to a junior
or senior accounting major and nursing major (2 awards).
Elizabeth S. Largay Nursing Scholarship: Awarded to
a sophomore nursing major from rural Maine with a minimum GPA
of 2.8.
M. Scott McDowell Memorial Scholarship: Established
by friends, relatives, and colleagues in his memory, this scholarship
is awarded to a third year student from Maine majoring in Business
Administration who demonstrates financial need and the ability
to succeed in a business program.
Leonard & Renee Minsky Scholarship: Awarded to an
upper class Business Administration major from the greater Bangor
- Brewer area or other towns in Penobscot county.
William P. Newman Scholarship: Awarded to an upper class
male Business major with demonstrated proficiency and sportsmanship.
The Scholar Incentive Award is awarded based on academic
performance. Starting after students have completed at least
thirty (30) credits, students who have attained a semester grade
point average of 3.4 or better will receive $300 and those who
have attained a 3.6 or better will receive $400 the following
semester. To be eligible, the recipient must attain the requisite
semester grade point average during a semester in which he or
she is carrying a 15 credit hour or greater course load. Payment
of this award is applied toward tuition in the subsequent regular
semester of enrollment. Please note that students eligible for
renewal of either the Honors Scholarship or the Business Technology
Education Scholarship are not eligible for this award.
Scholarship from outside sources
Applications available in the Financial Aid Office
Accountemps/AICPA Student Scholarship: Awarded to a
declared accounting, finance, or information resources major
with a GPA of at least a 3.0. Student must have completed at
least 30 credits, including at least six credit hours in accounting.
Must also be enrolled as a full time student and must be an
AICPA student affiliate member. Deadline is April 1.
Altrusa International Scholarship: Awarded to a Maine
woman who has completed 15 credit hours and is enrolled in a
degree-granting program at Husson College. Deadline is April
30.
Altrusa Nursing Scholarship: Awarded to a student who
has completed 15 credits hours and is enrolled in a degree-granting
program at Husson College. Deadline is April 30.
American Association of University Women - Non-Traditional
Student $150 Book Award: Awarded to women 24 years or older,
have experienced at least a five year educational break before
enrolling as a degree student at Husson, have a minimum GPA
of 3.0 (undergraduate) and of 3.5 (graduate), and undergraduate
students must have completed at least 30 credit hours at Husson
while graduate students must have completed 10 credits hours
at Husson. Deadline is November 5.
American Business Women's Association: Awarded to a
legal Maine resident enrolled full time at an accredited institution.
ABWA members or individuals who are members of the ABWA member's
household are not eligible to apply. Deadline is March 15.
American Chemical Society Scholars Program: Applicants
must be African American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian;
a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.; a full-time
student at an accredited institiution; high academic achiever
in chemistry or science; able to demonstrate evidence of financial
need according to the FAFSA; and intending or already majoring
in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a chemically
related science and planning a career in the chemical sciences
or chemical technology. Deadline is February 15. To download

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Scholarship
for Minority Accounting Students: Awarded to full-time undergraduate
and graduate students at regionally accredited institutions
and selection is based on merit and need. Deadline is July 1.
Association of Operation Room Nurses of Maine: Awarded
to nursing students from Maine.
Auxiliary to the Penobscot County Medical Society Scholarship:
Awarded to students in nursing and health-related fields. Preference
will be given to non-traditional students in their third or
fourth year who have displayed a strong desire to overcome financial
and/or family hardship to fulfill their goals. Deadline is May
1.
Backpacker Outdoor Scholarship Program: Scholarships
are awarded in three categories (Outdoor Leadership, Environmental
Leadership, and Outdoor Writing) to any full-time undergraduate
student attending a four-year college. The applicant must be
in his/her junior or senior year and be maintaining at least
a 3.0 GPA. The applicant may be pursuing any major. Applications
should be postmarked no later than February 16.
The Barking Foundation: Grants awarded to Maine residents

Larry Blouin Scholarship: Awarded to an employee or
child of an employee of Fresh Samantha Inc. (Maine residency
not required), in good academic standing, and accepted at a
two or four year post-secondary school. Deadline is April 15.
BPW Futurama Scholarships -must be Maine resident and
demonstrate financial need to apply. Deadline is April 20.
The Rachel E. Lemieux Memorial Scholarship:
Awarded to a high school senior or recent graduate who will
enroll in an accredited institution.
Career Advancement Scholarship: Awarded to a woman who
is 30 years of age or older who is continuing in, or returning
to, college.
Interim Scholarship: Awarded to a woman whose educational
program is already in progress.
Billy Brown Scholarship: Awarded to a Maine resident
in good academic standing. Applicants should have attended Portland,
Deering, Catherine McAuley, Cheverus, Waynflete, South Portland,
Cape Elizabeth, or Yarmouth high schools. Deadline is April
15.
Kingsley Alcid Brown Scholarship: Awarded to a graduate
student from Washington County, Maine. Deadline is April 1.
Business Education Association of Maine (BEAM) has two
scholarships available.
Business Education Teacher's Child or Ward
Scholarship: Awarded to a business teacher's child or ward
who is in college or planning to attend college.
Business Teacher Education Training Program Scholarship:
Awarded to a student enrolled in a business education teacher
program.
Deadline is April 15.
Carat Scholarship Foundation: Awarded to undergraduates
and graduates who are U.S. citizens and awards are based on
academic record, financial need, and career goals. Deadline
is January 15,
Daniel Cardillo Charitable Fund: Applicants must have
a demonstrated financial need, compassion for others, and a
passion for a life activity and be seeking through the program
or educational opportunity to be funded to further that passion.
Deadline is May 1.
Stephen B. Center Diversity Leadership Award: Awarded
to a Maine resident enrolled full-time. UnumProvident Corporation
employees and their families are not eligible. Deadline is April
15.
Cliff House Scholarship Fund: Awarded to students who
are pursuing a degree in culinary, restaurant, or hotel management.
To be eligible for a Cliff House Scholarship Fund award, applicants
must be (in order of priority) Wells or York high school graduates,
students from other York county high school, Cliff House employees,
or children of Cliff House employees. Deadline is April 15.
CMP Group Scholarship Fund: Awarded to dependents of
CMP Group or CMP Group affiliate employees or retirees who are
graduating seniors enrolling in an accredited institution. The
applicant must also reside within the CMP service area.
Ira Cobe Scholarship Fund: Awarded to financially needy
young men under the age of 23. Deadline is May 1.
Cumberland County Retired Teachers Scholarship: Awarded
to a resident of Cumberland County, Maine who has completed
one semester at an accredited college and majoring in education
or nursing. Deadline is April 1.
Cushman Scholarship Fund: Awarded to a resident of Hancock
County, Maine who is pursuing a degree in medicine or Christian
education. Deadline is May 1.
Down East Registered Nurses Association Scholarship: Awarded
to a student from Washington County who is enrolled in a program
of professional nursing. Applicants should have completed one
year in a professional nursing program and must have some need
of financial assistance.
Educators for Maine: All applicants must be Maine residents
pursuing a career in speech pathology, child development, or
certification as a teacher. High school students and GED recipients
must be in the top 25% of their class. College students must
have a GPA of 3.0 and post-baccalaureate students must be currently
enrolled in college, have a B.A. or its equivalent and the most
recent GPA must be at least 3.0. Deadline is April 1. Go to

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund: Applicants must
be dependent children or spouses of persons who were killed
or are permanently disabled as a direct result of the terrorist
attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. Students
must be undergraduates and demonstrate financial need. Go to

CFM Candidate Scholarship Program: Applicants must be
a full-time student in senior standing pursuing a degree in
Finance. Applicants must also agree to sit for the CFM exam
if selected and must file an application for admission with
the ICMA. Deadlines are December 1 and March 30.
M. Alton French Scholarship Fund: Awarded to a full-time
student from towns of Lincolnville, Camden, Hope, Appleton,
Rockport, Northport, or Isleboro. Deadline is June 1.
GCFM Horticulture Scholarship: Applicants must be Maine
residents and be a junior, senior, or graduate student in some
field of horticulture. Deadline in March 1.
Nell Goff Memorial Scholarship: Applicants must be residents
of Maine, with preference given to students from the St. Croix
region who are pursuing a degree in some field of horticulture.
Deadline is March 1.
Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education
Program: Awarded to full-time sophomores and juniors interested
in a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.
Applicants must also have a B average or equivalent, stand in
the upper fourth of the class, and be a U.S. citizen, resident
alien, or U.S. national. Deadline is February 1.
Ronald P. Guerrette FFA Scholarship Fund: Awarded to
students from Caribou High School, Aroostook County, and Maine
who are FFA members and have a demonstrated interest and motivation
to pursue a career in farming and agriculture.
John Gyles Education Award: Available to both Canadian
and American citizens with a minimum GPA of 2.7 in any field
of study. Filing dates for mailing applications are April 1,
June 1, and November 15.
Janet Davidson Hammond Medical Scholarship: Awarded
to graduating seniors from Fryeburg Academy, Lake Region High
School, and Oxford Hills High School who plan on majoring in
nursing or physical therapy at an accredited institution. Deadline
is April 15.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund: Applicants must be U.S. citizens
or legal permanent residents of Hispanic heritage attending
an accredited U.S. college full-time. Applicants must also have
a minimum GPA of 2.7 and have earned at least 15 college credits.
Holbrook Island Sanctuary Corporation Scholarship Program:
Awarded to a graduating senior who plans to continue his or
her education in an area such as natural history, ecology, botany,
zoology, ornithology, geology, marine biology, environmental
education, teaching, interpretation, park management, or any
field of study relevant to Holbrook Island Sanctuary and its
programs. Applicants must also be self-motivated and be able
to communicate both knowledge and enthusiasm for the natural
world. Applicants must be residents of Hancock County or a graduate
of a Hancock County high school. Deadline is May 1.
Samuel Huntington Public Service Award: Provides an
annual stipend of $10,000 for a graduating college senior to
pursue pubic service anywhere in the world. The award allows
recipients to engage in a meaningful public service activity
for up to one year before proceeding on to graduate school or
a career. Funds are awarded based on students' submitted proposals.
Deadline is February 15.
Chet Jordan Leadership Award: Awarded to outstanding
students who exhibit family values, community service, academic
or athletic excellence and who plan to further their education
through college or technical school. Deadline is April 15.
KeyBank Scholarship: Awarded to a Maine resident who
graduated from a Maine high school and has financial need. The
applicant must have a high school GPA of C or better and must
be pursuing a degree full-time at a Maine institute of higher
education.
James Madison Memorial Fellowship: Applicants must be
committed to a career in teaching American history, American
government, or social studies at the secondary level. Fellows
can attend any institution of higher education in the U.S. for
either a Master of Arts degree (MA), a Master of Arts in Teaching
(MAT), or a Master of Education degree (MEd) with an emphasis
on American history, government, or political science. For more

Maine Masonic Aid for Continuing Education
(Apply January 1-April 15)
Scholarships are available for adults pursuing higher education.
May be full or part-time students. Students must meet federal
criteria for an independent student. In addition, they must
have exceptional financial need, have a serious educational
plan, and contribute to the community.
Maine State Chamber of Commerce Scholarship
(Apply January 1-April 15)
Two scholarships are given to graduating high school seniors:
one who is planning to pursue an associates degree in a technical
program and one who is planning to pursue a bachelors degree
in a business-related area. Preference may be given to students
attending Maine colleges. Awards are based on academic excellence,
student activities, financial need, letters of recommendation,
and a required essay.
One Scholarship is given to an adult learner
planning to pursue an education at a two-year degree granting
college. Preference may be to a student attending a Maine college
and seeking a degree in a business- or education-related field.
Awards are based on an adult being 23 years or older and having
legal dependents other than a spouse.
Maine Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund
(Apply January 1-March 22)
Sixteen awards (one per county) are made annually to students
going to a two- or four-year degree granting Maine school. Scholarships
are available to graduating high school seniors or full/part-time
post-secondary students accepted or enrolled in a Maine college.
Graduate students are also eligible. Awards are based on academic
excellence, school and community contributions, financial need,
letters of recommendation, and a required essay.
Maine Metal Products Association Scholarship
(Apply January 1-April 15)
The Maine Metal Products Association Scholarship awards are
given to individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding record
and overall potential to attend an institution of higher learning
majoring in:
· Mechanical Engineering
· Machine Tool Technician
· Sheet Metal Fabrication
· Welding
· CADCAM for Metals Industry
This scholarship is restricted to the study of metal working
trades and will be used to pay tuition costs, textbooks, lab
fees, supplies, room and board.
Peoples Promise Scholarship (Apply January
1-April 15)
Ten $2,500 scholarships are awarded by Peoples Heritage Bank
to graduating high school seniors who will enroll in a post-secondary
institution. The recipients are offered a three-month paid internship
position with the bank after their first year of post-secondary
education. This program is intended for students from low to
moderate-income households in Maine. Awards are based on financial
need, academic achievement, involvement in school activities,
community volunteer activity, work experience, and a required
essay.
Maine Fishermen's Forum Scholarship: Applicants must
be a sophomore and an immediate family member of anyone actively
participating in the Maine seafood industry.
Maine Media Women Scholarship: Applicants can be full-time
undergraduate or graduate students pursuing studies in journalism,
public relations, or advertising. Deadline is April 1.
Maine Rural Rehabilitation Fund Scholarship: Applicants
must be Maine residents and meet one or more of the following
qualifications: at least 50% family gross income for the past
year has been derived from farm and/or woodswork occupation,
be a child of a deceased or physically impaired person who has
operated a farm or has been employed in a qualifying woodswork
occupation, and/or is an FFA member in good standing who plans
to pursue a career in agriculture or woodswork. Applicants must
also show unmet financial need and have a GPA of 2.7 or better.
Deadline is June 15.
Maine State Society of Washington, D.C. Foundation Scholarship:
Applicants must have been born in or have been a legal resident
of the State of Maine for at least four years or have at least
one parent who was born in or has been a legal resident of the
State of Maine for at least four years, not have reached his/her
25th birthday by April 1, and be enrolled in a minimum of 14
semester hours at a Maine college or university. Deadline is
April 1.
Maine Tradeswomen Network Scholarship: Awarded to a
financially needy female pursuing a career in a trade or technical
field. Deadline is March 26.
Maine Vietnam Veterans' Scholarship/Lest We Forget/MIA/POW/KIA
Scholarship: Criteria for both scholarship are as follows:
Maine veterans of the United States Armed Services who served
in the Vietnam Theater who are taking post-secondary level training
or education at an accredited institution. A second priority
for scholarships is to children of veterans of the United States
Armed Services. Deadline is May 1.
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation: Applicants should
be the son/daughter of a Marine on active duty or in the Reserve,
the son/daughter of a former Marine or Marine Reservist who
has received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge, or who
was killed while in the service of our Country, or the son/daughter
of an active duty, reserve, or former U.S. Navy Corpsman who
is serving or has served, with the U.S. Marine Corps. Applicants
should also be a senior in high school, a high school graduate,
or currently enrolled in an accredited institute of higher education
and have a family income of $49,000 or less. For more information,

MBNA Maine Scholars College Scholarship Program: Awarded
to graduating seniors from the following areas: Knox or Waldo
Counties, Chebeague, Cliff Island, Long Island, Peaks Island,
Frenchboro, Islesford, Cranberry Isle, Swans Island, Monhegan,
communities served by MSAD #1 (Presque Isle, Castle Hill, Chapman,
Mapleton, Westfield), communities served by MSAD #9 (Farmington,
Weld, Temple, Wilton, New Vineyard, New Industry, New Sharon,
Chesterville, Vienna), or communities served by MSAD #27 (Fort
Kent, St. Francis, St. John Plantation, Wallagrass Plantation,
Eagle Lake, Winterville Plantation, New Canada). Applicants
must have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
Mensa Scholarships: This is an essay contact open to
all students pursing an education. Deadline is January 31.
Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship: Applicants must
be legal Maine residents and must plan to attend an accredited
college or university in the fall. Recipients will be selected
based on academic performance/potential, community service,
and financial need. Deadline is April 1.
National Federation of the Blind Scholarship: Scholarships
available for legally blind students pursing a post-secondary
education. Deadline is March 31
National Health Service Corps Scholarship: Applicants
should be U.S. citizens enrolled or accepted for enrollment
in a U.S. fully accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical
school, dental school, family nurse practitioner program, nurse-midwifery
program, or physician assistant program. Deadline is March 29.
National Italian American Foundation Scholarship: Awarded
to Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential
and high academic achievement in any area of study. GPA must
be 3.25 or better and must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship:
Applicants must be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident
aliens of the United States at the time of applications. Applicants
must also be in the early stages of their graduate study in
science, mathematics, or engineering. Deadline is November 7
for the next academic year.
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarships
Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship: Awarded
to undergraduate students currently enrolled in an accredited
school of nursing in the amount of $500. Applications must be
received by the national chairman by February 15 or August 15.
Lillian and Arthur Dunn Scholarship: Awarded to graduating
high school seniors whose mothers are current members of NSDAR.
Madeline Pickett (Halbert) Cogswell Nursing Scholarship:
Awarded to students currently enrolled in an accredited school
of nursing for undergraduate student who are members, eligible
for membership, or related to a member of NSDAR, C.A.R., or
SR. Applications must be received by the national chairman by
February 15 or August 15.
Occupational Therapy Scholarship: Awarded to students
currently enrolled in an accredited school of occupational or
physical therapy. Applications must be received by the national
chairman by February 15 or August 15.
Native American Scholarship Fund: Several scholarships
available to Native American students.
New England College Scholarship: Applicants must have
completed thirty (30) credits toward their first associate's
degree and plan to return the following fall to complete their
associate's degree. Deadline is April 12.
New England Employee Benefits Council Scholarship: Applicants
should be full-time students studying in an accredited academic
program leading to a degree. Students should be able to demonstrate
an interest through either course of study or work experience
in a career in the benefits field. Applicants must also be from
New England or enrolled at a college in New England. Deadline
is April 1.
New England Roundtable of the Council of Logistics Management
Scholarship: Awarded to any undergraduate enrolled in an
accredited four-year college located in the states of Maine,
New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Deadline is November 15.
Northeast Pain Research Center Annual Scholarship: Applicants
must be permanent residents of the New England area and must
have completed at least two years of a four-year degree program
or graduate program in an allied healthcare field. Deadline
is December 15.
PepsiCo Foundation ExCEL Awards: Applicants must be
children of PepsiCo employees. Deadline is January 31. Go to

W. Scott Reid Scholarship: Awarded to a nursing major
from Maine attending a Maine college or university. Deadline
is June 10.
Richard A. Roy Memorial Scholarship: Awarded to a business
student enrolled in a Maine college or university. The student
must be a junior and have maintained at least a 3.3 cumulative
GPA. Deadline is March 1.
Clyde Russell Scholarship Fund: Awards are made to Maine
citizens in the following categories: graduating high school
seniors, full-time college or graduate students, citizens of
Maine pursuing further educational/cultural opportunities, and
junior, senior, or graduate students in a teacher preparation
program. Deadline is February 1.
Army ROTC Nurse Program: Awards four-, three-, and two-year
Army ROTC scholarships to pay up to $17,000 of tuition and fees,

Penobscot Voiture Locale 427 Nursing Training Scholarship:
Awarded to upperclass nursing students with financial need.
Preference is given to veterans or those students with a close
relationship to a veteran. Deadline is October 30.
Ralph Waning, Albert Faust Forestry and Agriculture Scholarship
Fund: Applicants must reside or have lived in Kennebec or
Waldo Counties for a minimum of two years. At least one year
of college or technical school must be completed and he/she
must be furthering their education in forestry, agriculture,
or national resources in the State of Maine. Applicants must
have attained a C average or above. Deadline is April 15.
Ellen F. Washburn Nurses Training Award: Awarded to
nursing students attending a college in Maine. Deadline is April
15.
Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest: Applicants

Women's Overseas Service League Scholarship: Awarded
to women who are committed to advancement in military or other
public service careers, have demonstrated such commitment through
life experiences, have successfully completed a minimum of 12
credit hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA, are admitted for study
in an institution of higher learning in a program leading to
an academic degree, agree to enroll for a minimum of six credit
hours for each academic period, and agree to maintain academic
standards. Deadline is March 1.
Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships: Awarded
to women of any nationality and may be used at any accredited
institution for the third or fourth year of study in an accredited
program that will result in a business-related degree. Deadline
is April 30.
