WHAT MATERIALS MAY BE
PLACED ON ELECTRONIC RESERVE?
Electronic reserve is intended for short items,
such as:
Journal
articles
Book
chapters
Syllabi
Course
notes
Sample
exams
Homework
solutions
Electronic reserves may not be used for entire
books, journals or audiovisual items.
These materials will be placed on traditional course reserve and
shelved behind the circulation desk.
Materials placed on electronic reserve will not be duplicated in hard
copy on the course reserve shelves. One printed copy will be kept on hand in
case the electronic system becomes temporarily unavailable.
SUBMITTING
MATERIALS FOR ELECTRONIC RESERVE
To place items on electronic course reserve,
faculty must fill out a Reserve Request Form indicating their name, course
name and course number. The form is
available at the Circulation Desk or on the library’s homepage.
- All
photocopies should be submitted on single-sided 8.5 x 11 paper. Please
make sure that all pages are included, words are not cut off, and the
copy is as clear as possible. Try
to eliminate black margins on photocopies – these marks darken once the
document is scanned, and toner is wasted when the document is printed.
- Please
do not staple copies, as staples must be removed before scanning. Use paper clips instead.
- Be
sure each item is labeled with its title as it will appear on your
syllabus. Students should know
specifically what to ask or search for.
- Please
include the complete bibliographic citation for each document on the
first page of the copy. Books: author, title, publisher,
date of publication, page numbers.
Journal articles:
journal title, volume, issue, date, page numbers.
- Each
photocopy should be no longer than 25 pages, to facilitate more
efficient downloading and printing times. If your photocopy exceeds this page
length, please divide the article into parts.
- You
may send the items in a file (Word, PDF, Text) through email, noting the
title of each item, the course name and number, and your name in the
text of the message. Send to hanscomd@husson.edu
- Please
include a syllabus when submitting items for a new course.
- In
consideration of copyright guidelines, we cannot place more than 10% of
a total work on electronic reserve.
Entire books and journals can be placed on traditional course
reserve behind the Circulation Desk.
- Articles
currently accessible on the Internet or via the library’s electronic
databases may not be placed on electronic reserve.
TIMELINESS
OF SUBMISSIONS
It takes time to scan and process electronic
reserves, especially at the beginning of a new semester. To ensure your material is available by the
time your students need it, we ask that you submit materials at least a week
prior to the time it will first be used.
All reserve submissions will be processed in the order in which they
are received.
ACCESSING
ELECTRONIC RESERVES
A password is required to access the electronic
course reserves page. This password
will be changed each semester. Faculty
will be notified of passwords via email and should inform students.
The items scanned by the library will be saved as
TIFF files. The electronic course
reserves page contains information on how to open and view these files.
The items are organized by faculty name, then by
course number or name.
COPYRIGHT
Reproduction of copyrighted materials for the
purposes of scholarship, research and teaching is legally deemed to be Fair
Use of published materials. Faculty
are responsible for ensuring that the materials they want to put on reserve
are in compliance with Copyright Law and/or obtaining copyright
clearance/permission for materials that are going to be re-used in future
semesters.
The library will create copyright displays for
each item in compliance with U.S. Copyright guidelines by stamping the first
page of each article with the copyright message to ensure compliance. This stamp will display when the item is
electronically accessed.
REMOVING
ITEMS FROM ELECTRONIC RESERVES
Items on electronic course reserve are available to Husson students
during the semester a course is taught.
Faculty may request at any time that items be removed from
reserve. At the end of the semester, all copyright-protected materials
will be removed from electronic reserve.
The same copyright-protected material (example: journal articles) may
not be placed on electronic reserve for two consecutive semesters for the
same course unless permission is obtained.
