Thank you for your interest in the new Occupational Therapy Program at Husson College. There are some important features to the Occupational Therapy (OT) Program which I hope will help you make an informed choice regarding your education as an Occupational Therapist.

The Occupational Therapy Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD, 20824-1220. AOTA's phone number is (301) 652-AOTA. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). Most states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination.

This program is designed to help you think as an independent practitioner. There is an emphasis on problem-solving and using tested procedures to help people whenever possible. You will learn about OT in the first term of your freshman year. Every term has an OT course until you reach your junior year when the majority of course work is clinically oriented and focuses on occupational therapy content. Faculty will work closely with you to ensure that your education meets your needs, the needs of the profession, and the needs of the College.
